Attention Darter,

There will be a change to the format of teams and play starting with the Fall 07 Season. Those of you who play in the summer will recognize the format. We will be shifting to the Summer format of play for year round. The team will consist of 4 players with 3 alternates with a total of 7 on the roster. The games to be played will be 1 701, 2 Team 501s, 2 Team Crickets and 4 singles matches. There will also be a cap of .625.

Why the change? You may ask. Here are the benefits of the change.

1. Less matches per night (9) to the (11) would end the night earlier.
2. There are 4 different chances of playing in games versus the 3 we have been doing.
3. A cap will minimize the powerhouses and should make the team strength closer, thus making for more competitive divisions.
4. Easier to assemble teams - less players per team. This could also be a con for those 8 and 9 man teams that stick together every season.

Now we come to the why. Over the past few years, many divisions have been 1 and 2 team races with the rest of the teams battling for 3rd and 4th places. Many teams were >25 points out with no chance of making the play-offs. Some were > 50 points out (unbelievable). While some teams have personnel issues which cause this, many teams were just placed in Divisions they don’t or feel they don’t belong. If it was just 1 or 2 divisions then it is a placement issue. But last season we had just 2 divisions that were actually close going into the final weeks. It is preferred to have most of the divisions close going into the final weeks.

What this means. It will produce more teams. This will allow divisions to be more local (Less traveling). Divisions should be more competitive. That will mean more teams have a chance at making the playoffs. [/u]

The .625 cap is based on the weighted singles average. for an example, in super a 1.000 average (perfect). In A a perfect would be .800, in B .700, in C .600 and in D .500. We have done this weighting for years when we do the division splits. We use the top 6 players currnetly. We had a cap at one time but did away with it
